I knew my life was coming to an end but I couldn’t tell how I really felt inside.

This song “INORI –Wish(pray)“, sung by a Japanese female singer Kumiko, was written to convey messages from Sadako Sasaki. Sadako is known as “the Child of the A-bomb”, whose statue is displayed in the Hiroshima Peace Park.

Sadako was exposed to radiation in the atomic bombing of Hiroshima when she was 2 years old and suffered from leukemia 10 years after the bombing, and finally passed away when she was 12. In her sickbed, she kept folding paper cranes with her paper medicine wrapping , believing she could go back home soon and wishing that such tragic war never occur again.


INORI means Wish(pray).
Sadako's pray was to get well soon and to live with the people she loved. She wished that nobody else would have to go through the same pain as her own. We believe mercy and loving-kindness always create love, on the other hand hatred only arises hatred. We felt that this song INORI could convey the power of love and create bonds of love among people all over the world.

The song’s title, “Inori” means wish in English.In Japan, it is said 

that if you fold a thousand origami cranes, your wish will come true. 

Because of this, origami has become a symbol of peace. This song is

about a girl who makes origami with the wish that people will have an 

open heart and share it with one another and also that human beings 

will cherish their one precious life.  

The song’s main theme is world peace, similar to “We are the World” 

and “Amazing Grace”.This song inspired me to begin the Inori (wish) 

Project. We would like to spread the idea of origami as a symbol of 

peace around the world.  

For this project, the origami is made on the internet rather than by hand.  

Just by accessing the INORI Twitter website one can make an origami 

crane just by clicking.   Every time someone accesses the website and 

click on "Wish", a origami crane is made.  

Each crane is counted towards the thousand of cranes needed to make a 

wish come true. Please join the INORI project to make a world peace.
